1st victory for CV Performance Group in DTM Trophy

William Tregurtha shines at shadow zone duels in Lusatia

After the CV Performance Group's sensational debut in the DTM Trophy, the British driver William Tregurtha was one of the big winners also in the second round at the Lausitzring. With a victory on Sunday and third place in Saturday's race, he further extended his lead.

The CV Performance Group showed last weekend at the Lausitzring that the success of the Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing Team at the DTM Trophy season opener at Monza was not a flash in the pan. William Tregurtha was one of the big favorites in both races and put on a sensational show for the spectators at the track.

Already on Saturday, he laid the first foundation stone in qualifying with pole position. The race over 30 minutes was by no means relaxed. At the start, the British driver’s Mercedes AMG GT4 lost ground, causing William to lose positions in each case. But with thrilling maneuvers, the 21-year-old fought his way back and was waved off in third place.

Qualifying on Sunday was not perfect: William entered the race in fifth place, in which he continued his strong drive from the previous day. In the oval of the Lausitzring, he delivered breathtaking shadow zone duels and took advantage of every mistake of his combatants. With two laps to go, he took the lead and gave the team from Niederzissen their first sports car victory.

Firstly, I'm speechless, I'm so happy with the result. Just amazed. I cannot thank the team, everyone - enough for this. We got off to a really good start, the setup was mega all weekend and we had a very well refined package which just let us focus on the race performance! The pole on Saturday and the win on Sunday is just the start, I'm sure that we will be back for more.

said William in a good mood.

Head of the team Christian Voß was also in a good mood:

After the weekend I gained some more grey hair. William drove really strongly and implemented everything perfectly. What can I say, it was our second sports car race and we won. It can continue like this. A big thank you to our partners for the support.

In the overall standings, Tregurtha extended his lead to twelve points. The DTM Trophy continues from August 20th-22nd at the Nürburgring. Matias Salonen will be represented there again. The Finnish driver had to take a forced break this weekend due to a quarantine.
