CV Performance Group defends lead in DTM Trophy
Mercedes-team with home game on the Nürburgring
Uplifted by the first DTM Trophy-victory in the Lausitz, the CV Performance Group travelled to the third Championship weekend on the Nürburgring. During eventful racing days, the Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing Team experienced intense races and defended the overall lead.
While William Tregurtha drove alone for the CV Performance Group on the Lausitzring, his team mate Matias Salonen was back behind the wheel of his Mercedes AMG GT4 in the Eifel. For the Finnish rookie, it was about gaining further experiences in a sportscar.
Tregurtha came to the event as the overall leading driver and wanted to defend his lead. The races were spectacular for the Brit this time though. Both qualifyings didn't go according to plan for the team from Niederzissen with ninth and eighth places. But William showed his fighting spirit during the ranked races. With great starts and strong overtaking maneuvers, he drove forward to fourth position on Saturday and Sunday and thereby narrowly missed placing on the podium. He's still leading the Championship before the half-time event.
„It was an exhausting weekend. After the missing pace during qualifying, it was all about driving forward again during the races. I couldn't be too aggressive though because I didn't want to risk a falling out. I managed to do this well in the end and I defended my lead. We're now highly motivated for the coming race on the Red-Bull-Ring in Austra“, the 21-year-old summed up his weekend.
His Finnish team mate Matias Salonen only drove his second sportscar-race on the Nürburgring and showed a strong learning curve during the three racing days. From race to race, he kept learning and improving and shortened the distance to the leading drivers. The two races went partly spectacularly for him though, which made him fall back regarding the final result and he wasn't able to fully highlight his performance.
„The whole weekend was really tough. It was hard for us to find the right balance for the car. Things felt much better towards the end though and I was content. I made great progress, also thanks to my team mate William, who gave me lots of helpful tips. The results weren't what I'd expected. Still, it was a good experience and I'd like to thank my whole team for their support“, said Salonen.
The drivers of the DTM Trophy will already continue in two weeks. Then, the half-time event of the sportscar series is going to take place on the Red-Bull-Ring. For team leader Christian Voß, it's the best possibility to strengthen the position at the front: „We didn't have a perfect weekend this time, but we still made the best out of it. William showed all of his strength and gained important points. We're still leading the overall list of rankings and want to keep defending this. We'll get our next chance on the Red Bull Ring.“
