CVPG finished DTM Trophy as vice-champion

William Tregurtha on Norisring podium on Sunday

The sports car premiere season for the CV Performance Group came to an end at the Norisring last weekend. The Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing Team fought until the finish for the championship title in the DTM Trophy and in the end became vice champion – a strong statement for the newcomers

In karting, the CV Performance Group has been the measure of all things for years and celebrated numerous championship titles. Christian Voß's team broke new ground in the beginning of the year in the DTM Trophy. For the first time, the team from Niederzissen dared to take the plunge into sports car racing.

But since the start of the season in Monza, Italy, there has been no need to hide from the renowned teams. Together with William Tregurtha, the team fought at the top of the rankings and led the standings over long distances. Now, the big showdown took place at the Norisring. The street track in Nuremberg has a long tradition and is one of the season highlights.

Tregutha fought strong duels with the competition in both races and finished his performances in fourth and second place. Thus, he missed the title win by a hair's breadth.

„Right now, my feeling is somewhere between disappointment and satisfaction. We gave everything until the end, and I really wanted to win the title. The team did an incredible job and convinced throughout. I would like to thank everyone for their trust in me,“ the British driver summed up his emotional state.

For rookie Matias Salonen, the weekend at the Norisring unfortunately ended earlier than hoped for. After an accident on Saturday, the Finnish driver had to give up involuntarily. „I was highly motivated after experiencing the track and atmosphere. Unfortunately, things turned out differently in the end. Over the course of the year, I learned a lot. Kudos to the team, GT racing was new territory for everyone which was unrecognizable. The work was highly professional. I am already looking forward to the coming season,“ Salonen summarized.

The race at the Norisring was also something very special for head of the team Christian Voß: „I never expected that we would fight for the championship as a team in our first sports car year ever. But already since the first race we have underlined our possibilities and thus laid the foundation for success. Our drivers, as well as the entire crew – they all did an amazing job.“
